Carlisle Shoe Company

This is the title of an organization which has for its purpose the establishment of a new industry in our midst. The Company is composed of gentlemen of capital, energy and business talents. The following are the officers and directors:

President -- John T. Green
Vice President -- Dr. George W. Neidich
Secretary and Treasurer -- John Irvine
Superintendent - F. C. Fleming
Directors -- John T. Green, George W. Neidich, John Irvine, S.A. Pague, F.C. Fleming

We paid a visit to the establishment on Wednesday last; it is located on the second story of the building on the South East corner of Main and Bedford streets, where the steam power is furnished from Gardner and Co.'s Machine Shop. A portion of the machinery has already arrived from the East, and is now being put up preparatory to commencing work on Monday next. Through the politeness of the Superintendent, Mr. F. C. Fleming and the Foreman, Mr. Charles Goodwin, of Lynn, Mass., we were shown the several machines and their operation explained. The machinery already set up consistes of a ponderous Sewing Machine, driven by steam, called a "McKay Sewer," for sewing the soles to the uppers, a "Splitter," a Rolling Machine, Sand-papering Machine, a Wax-thread upper Sewer, a Leverett Binder, and a 'Howe' and a 'Singer' Platform Sewing Machines. In addition to these, there are all the minor machines necessary to the manufacture of Boots and Shoes by machinery.

The courage and enterprise which have moved this Company to embark in this community, in this novel branch of manufacture, is deserving of the highest commendation, and we confidently bespeak for it the best wishes and most cordial encouragement from our citizens.
