Notes for Annie Butler |
|
|
Annie ran a small grocery store,
primarily in order to be able to purchase food at wholesale
prices for her large family. She couldn't read and had to
rely on the honesty of her customers. The McDermotts were
relatively well-off. Bernard was a coffee/tea blender and a
jeweler. They owned rental properties in addition to their
home over the store on Wilmot Street, which had two parlors,
one for everyday and one for "good". Every Sunday the Powers
family came to visit after Mass with their 10-12 children
and Annie and her daughters brought forth a huge Sunday
dinner.1,
