He moved to California, PA in 1896. In 1897, he went to the Yukon in search of gold. In 1898, he returned to California and opened a butcher shop. Nephews Harold and Ben, niece Zella and any other relatives who attended California State Teachers College had to report to Uncle George every so often. He lived just across the street from the main entrance.¹⁹
