| On April 17, 1738, Johann Balthasar, age thirty seven, and Maria Dorothea Knortzer, age thirty five sold their estate in order toemigrate to America. Johann Balthasar, Maria Dorothea, and their fouroldest children made the long trip down the Rhine River to Holland,taking perhaps six weeks. At Rotterdam they embarked on an Englishvessel, the "Charming Nancy" Their final stop was on the EnglishChanel at the British port Cowes, on the Isle of Wight, beforeventuring west onto the Atlantic. The three youngest children remainedin Germany possibly because they were considered to young to survivethe crossing. Children under eight years of age rarely survived thevoyage. Maria Dorothea died at sea on the "Charming Nancy". She nevergot to see America. On November 8, 1738 the "Charming Nancy" arrivedin Philadelphia. The passengers were not allowed to embark immediatelyfor fear of disease such as small pox. On November 9, 1738 JohannBalthasar Knorzer, now a widower, and his four children stepped footon American soil. With the death of Dorthea, Balthasar needed a motherfor his young children ages eight to thirteen. He remarried shortlyafter he arrived in Pennsylvania, to a widow, Anna Catharine (Wolf)Grass, who had a son Andreas Grass, by her previous marriage. Soonupon arrival Johann Balthasar moved west across the Susquehanna Riverand settled in that part of Lancaster County which became York County.By 1740 Balthasar Knortzer with his new wife and their children weresettled near the Codorus River. They were members of the "ChristLutheran Church in York Town". The heirs of William Penn granted twolots to this church. The first building was a log building built in1743. He was living in Dover Township in York County Pennsylvania whenhe was naturalized in Philadelphia on September 25, 1751. JohannBalthasar bought and sold much land during his lifetime in America.The first land he bought was in Dover and Manchester townships on theLittle Conewago Creek and Big Conewago Creek. This land was fourwarrantees of a 100 acres each, granted to him on May 8, 1742. Heaccumulated over 1200 acres of land and three lots in York town. Hesold most of his holdings before his death. He was an educated mansigning his name in the German script to the ship list when he arrivedat the port in Phildelphia and to his will in 1767. He made his wealthin the new world. By the time he wrote his will, at the age ofsixty-six he had distributed more than three hundred pounds in GreatBritain money among his four children and step-son. George Christopherwas left one English shilling sterling money of Great Britian in hisfather's will in 1769. | ||

| Johann Balthasar Knorzer, son of Killian (1667-1734)was married to Maria Dorothea Mayer(Meyer)5-25-1722. Their children were Georg Christoph (1701-abt 1769), Maria Katharina (1725-1770), Catharina Dorothea (1727),Maria Christiana (1728-1729), Johann Balthasar (1730),Eva Barbara (1733), Johann Georg, (1735), Christiana (1736). Because of religous persecution and the upheaval of the times they sold all of their goods and property and left Germany in 1738. They traveled with the four oldest of their seven living children through the Netherlands, England and to the Port of Philadelphia, PA on the ship ^Charming Nancy^. Maria Dorthea died on the ship and was buried at sea. They settled in York Co PA and was a prominent landowner and businessman.
